Under the host of its affiliated Organization, PLF of Pakistan, WFTU brought together all members and friends in a succesful two-days conference to discuss on the developments in the global economy and the role of the trade unions.
The Conference concluded on May 28th, after a two-days wide exchange of experience deriving from the dramatic results of privatization in all strategic sectors of the economies.
In Pakistan in particular, the Government is promoting a series of privatizations in airlines, railways, telecommunication, steel industry etc. further detariorating the already terrible situation for the workers rights and threatening thousands of workers with dismissals.
WFTU General Secretary being the first of his prodecessors to visit Pakistan denounced the developments in the globalized economy and specifically the policies of the IMF and the World Bank, the intensification of the imperialist aggressiveness and the high exploitation and the looting of the natural resources, which all have drastic effect in the workers rights and the quality of life of the people.
A series of further activities were concluded and will be promoted in the period to come by the WFTU and its affiliates for the serious problems affecting the Pakistani Workers.
