The World Federation of Trade Unions salutes the more than 15 thousand construction and industry workers who participated in the great march to the parliament street on December 5th, 2019 in New Delhi, India.
The protesters were responded to the call of the Construction Workers’ Federation of India (CWFI) for escalating the workers struggle against the repeal of Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act 1996 (BOCW Act) providing statutory provision of various Social Welfare Schemes like: (a) Pension (b) Accidental Compensation ( c ) House Building Loan/ Assistance (d) Maternity Benefit (e) Children Education Allowance/ Assistance (f) Minor/Major Medical Operation Assistance (g) Safety & Health.
During the big demonstration, among others, comrade Tapan Sen, General Secretary of the WFTU affiliate, CITU addressed the participants. The International class-oriented trade union movement stands on the side of the workers of India, re-assuring them that the Indian working class can always rely on the support and solidarity of the WFTU.
