In the occassion of the TUI Energy Executive Commitee Meeting, taking place in Kolkata, India on December 17th, 2013, an Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of the sectoral organizations was organized as well.
With the warm hosting of the Petroleum and Gas Workers Federation, the Electricity Federation and the Coal Federation of India, the members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) in the Energy Sector a fruitfull discussion took place about the developments in the Asia-Pacific Region in the strategic energy sectors and the response of the working people.
Simon Mofokeng, General Secretary of the TUI Energy made it clear in his keynote adress that the TUI Energy under the omprella of the WFTU stands on the side of the asian people’s struggles against privatizations, against contractorization, for better wages, social security and pension, occupational health and safety measures and equal rights for men and women in the workplace and the society.
Following the inputs by the asian and the indian delegations, a separate discussion was held over the action plan of the TUI Energy in the Asia-Pacific Region, the strenghtening of the solidarity and coordination between the energy sector workers in regional and international level and the strengthening of the presence of the TUI in the continent.
During the TUI Energy’s 2nd Executive Committee Meeting that took place the same day, a more consolidated roadmap for the implementation of the resolutions of the Caracas Congress and the action plan of the TUI Energy was concluded.
