The World Federation of Trade unions, in the name of its 97 million members in 132 countries all over the world, condemns the statements of the Rural Development and Foods Minister of Greece, Mr. Makis Voridis, published on a daily morning newspaper of Athens on 13.07.2019.
More specifically, Mr. Voridis is boasting that as a member of the parliamentary assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, he has for three successive years proposed the rejection of the Palestinian Authority’s request Palestine to become a member of the parliamentary assembly, that he is the only Greek politician who has written articles in support of transferring the Greek Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, who has supported the signing of a defense and not just a strategic alliance with Israel and who has also adopted a position against Israel’s condemnation for the incidents in Gaza.
The WFTU condemns these extreme and unacceptable statements of the Greek Minister who support the Israeli occupation, the aggressiveness and crimes against the People of Palestine, while at the same time undermine the struggle of the Palestinian workers for an independent and sovereign Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The WFTU will stably and unwaveringly continue its internationalist action by the side of our Palestinian brothers and sisters, until the victory and vindication of their just struggle; until the end of the Israeli occupation and oppression and until the recognition of an independent Palestinian State with east Jerusalem as its capital.
