The trade union organization of Basque Country, LAB and PAME of Greece released common announcement calling the workers in their respective countries and Europe to participate in the general strikes organized in both countries on September 26th, 2012.
According to the announcement of the WFTU affiliates: “The European working class, in Greece, in the Basque Country, and in the rest of the peoples of Europe, is the principle victim of the current crisis of the capitalist system.”
The announcement continues as follows:
“The capitalist crisis is deepening and the governments at the service of transnational capital are adopting ever more savage measures against the interests of the working class and the rest of the popular sectors. The final objectives of these social cuts, of the cuts in labour and trade union rights, of the cuts in salaries, is to achieve a low-paid workforce, without any kind of rights, and to completely dismantle the public sector with the end of guaranteeing maximum benefits for private enterprise, and to offer new levels of the market to private initiative, converting the spheres of health and education into a source of business and private profit.
Facing this situation it is evident that it is necessary and vital for the European working class and for the rest of the popular sectors to mobilize and rise up against the anti-social and anti-worker measures that the different governments of the European Union are adopting, at the dictate of the Troika.
It is also necessary to support a class-based trade unionism, which holds the struggle as its main sign of identity, flatly rejecting the collaborationist and surrendering trade union model that has been in the majority in Europe during the last years, taking out the ideology of wide sectors of the working class, and through their discourse of “social dialogue” they have tried to give a “human face” to capitalism, something that has been demonstrated to be impossible.
We, the working class, must go into the streets and fight for our rights. For this, PAME and LAB both convoke, together with other organizations, General Strikes this coming September 26th in Greece and in the Basque Country, against the anti-social and anti-worker cuts that are being applied against each of our Peoples’ and throughout Europe. It is the working class which has to be the owner of its own future. We are calling on all of the European working class and European class-based trade unions to also mobilize on this day.
Equally, we call on all class-based European trade unions to support the day of mobilization on October 3rd, called for by the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU).”
