Athens, Greece June 5th, 2012

With great sorrow, the World Federation of Trade Unions expresses its condolences to the families of the passengers, the crew and the residents of Agege, Lagos for the tragic loss of their relatives in the Dana Airlines plane crash. Furthermore, we express our condolences to the people and the working class of Nigeria.

This tragic example and many more that have occurred world-wide during the last decades have formed our stable position that the mass means of transport and the safety of the population cannot be left to private ownership. The fact that profiting will always come first for the capitalists has dramatic results.

A public transport network that will put the safety and the quality of the services first can minimize these horrible phenomena.

Once more we express our solidarity to the struggles of our affiliated Nigerian unions in the sector of transport and aviation and we join our voices with their fair demands so that their members can work under the proper conditions in order to provide the best services for the passengers.
