The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing 92 million workers in the 5 continents, wishes to express, once again, its solidarity to the refugees who seek to avoid the horrors of war, trying to go to areas without war and mainly in Europe.
According to the UNHCR 2016 Global Trends Report, worldwide 22.5 million people were refugees and 2.8 million were asylum-seekers during the last year. At the same time, the IDMC 2016 Global Overview Report, announced that over 40.3 million people were internally displaced as a result of conflict.
The continuing humanitarian crisis of the refugees and displaced persons is the result of the imperialistic conflicts and wars. The capitalistic contradictions are solved through wars in which the losers are always the peoples, regardless of who will prevail over the other among the imperialists.
Therefore the hypocritical statements of the capitalists not only don’t solve the problem but also try to confuse and disorient the workers from the direction that their struggles must have.
The WFTU calls on the international class-oriented trade union movement and the working class in every country to express their tangible support and solidarity to the refugees, to isolate and reject the unacceptable and racist declarations of the nationalists and racists and to strengthen their struggle against capitalism which creates the imperialistic wars.
