Millions of Refugees

20 June 2008

Refugee campMillions of refugees, many young children among them, are driven from one country to the other because of the imperialist barbarity all over the World.

Today, on the International Refugee Day, the figures published by the UNHCR uncover a reality that is getting worse every year. At the same time, the number of asylum permits granted remains very low.

A new global survey published by the UNHCR reported that there were 11.4 million refugees outside their countries and 26 million others displaced internally by conflict or persecution at the end of 2007, contributing to an unprecedented number of uprooted people under the care of the UN refugee agency.

For the last two years, those figures have been significally increased. The statistics come from more than 150 countries. The reports note that Afghan and Iraqi people are half of the total refugee number.
