STATEMENT

The World Federation of Trade Unions with much pleasure has been informed that All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) will present its nomination in the forthcoming Governing Body of the ILO Workers’ Group elections, which will be held beginning of June.

We believe that the decision of ACFTU to nominate a candidate is correct and fair. The ACFTU is the biggest trade union organization with 193 million affiliates and on the basis of the principle of proportional representation has every right to do so. Today the ACFTU plays a leading role in the international trade union arena and according to the principles of democracy and transparency has every right to be elected.

The current composition of the Workers Group Governing Body harms the prestige of ILO. The image of the monopoly of one is not good.

For the above reasons, we declare the sincere and firm support of the WFTU to the nomination of brother Jiang Guangping.

We call upon all our affiliates and friends and upon all independent trade unions to support, to work and vote for the success of the ACFTU nomination.
