28 NOVEMBER 2000 – DAY OF ACTION OF AGRO-INDUSTRIAL WORKERS IN RUSSIA
25 October 2000In the difficult conditions and the deplorable state of the national economy, the Trade Union of Workers of Agro-Industrial Complexes in Russia is persistently fighting to defend the basic rights and interests of the workers in this vital sector of the national economy. Broad masses of workers and trade union committees at all levels are involved in this struggle, as it was shown on 21 November, during the protest actions organised throughout Russia.
On 28 November this year, in Moscow, there will be a National Day of Action.
Among the main concerns of the workers of the agro-industrial complexes is the present inadequate support given to development in order to end the present devastated conditions and the need to re-establish the Fund for Social Security for this sector of production. They demand a 10 per cent raise in the national budget for 2000 for this sector, the elimination of the unequal exchange between agricultural and industrial products, which has now become all the more unfavourable due to the increase in the prices of oil and electricity, as well as A ban on the sale of agricultural land.
The World Federation of Trade Unions strongly support these just demands of the workers of the agro-industrial complexes of Russia and calls upon all its affiliates and friendly organisations in all countries, to express their solidarity with the Central Committee and members of the Trade Union of Workers of Agro-Industrial Complexes of the Russian Federation.
