In India, the countrywide general strike called by the Sponsoring Committee of Trade Unions on 14 December 2006 against the anti-people neo-liberal economic and labour policies pf the Govt of India has been a challenging success. About sixty million working people of all sectors have joined the strike demanding fulfillment of 16-point charter of demands. W.F.T.U. visits Australia
Accepting the invitation of Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) Australia, the WFTU Delegation has visited Australia and held important discussions with sector-based and national unionist leaders in this far-away country.
The WFTU Delegation composed by colleagues George Mavrikos, WFTU General Secretary and Yiannis Passoulas, President of Greek Federation of Construction and Timber workers has visited big work places and had many important bilateral contacts. They have also participated in strike and protest of Australia Trade Unions on 30 November 2006 organized by ACTU.
