Commemorating the October 3rd, glorious founding day of WFTU, 70th anniversary day has been concluded in Kathmandu grandeur way by organizing a workshop on “Role of Contemporary Imperialism and the Sovereignty of the Third World Countries”.
Addressing from the chair of Chief Guest, the Former Prime Minister and Senior leader of CPN UML Comrade Jhala Nath Khanal said that the sovereignty of the third world countries are threatened by world imperialism. Appreciating militant role of the WFTU, he further remarked that the working class force must unite worldwide and firmly stand against intervention of imperialism and regional hegemony. Earlier on the theme of workshop, a paper was presented by Comrade Dr. Vijay Poudel, a Marxist Economist and politburo member of CPN UML. In the workshop, various guest speakers like the president of a left wing National Peoples’ front Cde. Chitra Bahadur KC, Ex- Minister and President of the Communist Party of Nepal(United) Cde. Ganesh Shah, Deputy General Secretary of CPN UML Cde. Ghan Shyam Bhusal and Cde. Ram Karki, Politburo Member of UCPN Maoist, also addressed. Almost all speakers focused on ongoing recent blockade of essential foods, petroleum products by neighboring country India and urged the Government of India not to impose restriction on supply of petroleum product to Nepal.
The program was chaired by CONEP Chairman Cde. Biswanath Pyakurel. Similarly, Cde. Premal Khanal, CONEP 1st Vice President and WPCM, had delivered a welcome speech and shared the glorious history of WFTU and future plan and program. Almost 300 union members including CONEP, NTUF, FENEPT, NEFON and NDFONT leaders participated in the program which was facilitated by the CONEP General Secretary Cde. Shiva Kumar Adhikari.
