The ILO Room proved to be too small to host the massive Meeting organized by the WFTU in the 103rd ILC on Monday, 9th June 2014.
With enthusiasm and collective spirit, dozens of members and friends of the WFTU gathered for the Informal Presidential Council and the Council of Friends to promote and enrich the Action Plan for the remaining 2014 which was decided in the Presidential Council Session which took place in Rome, Italy.
With their inputs trade unionists from various countries made suggestions and proposals for the further strengthening of the WFTU.
“The WFTU is growing, the WFTU is becoming more strong, the WFTU has presence in all continents. This is not the work of one person, this is the collective work of all of us. This is how we will continue, all together to build the strong class-oriented trade union movement we need today” said WFTU General Secretary, George Mavrikos in his closing remarks.
At the second session of the Meeting, a lengthy and detailed presentation was made by Eberto Diaz Montes, cadre of FENSUAGRO Colombia and Luis Morales, SINTRAMIENERGETICA Colombia exposed the violation of trade union rights, informed about the campaign for the release of Huber Ballesteros from the Colombian prisons, denounced the killings of trade unionists and the attack against workers rights.
The participants unanimously denounced the policy of the Colombian Government and the employers and decided on further action plan in solidarity with the Colombian working class under the coordination of the WFTU.
The WFTU activities during the 103rd ILC continue tomorrow 10th, June 2014 with a Conference for the “Right to Strike” which is being attacked by the employers, the transnational Corporations and the Governments that support them.
